Walberto Sinaga’s activities in Mentawai
At the scientific meeting this time the Primate Animal Study Center of LPPM-IPB was attended by the head of the PSSP center, program heads and laboratory heads, as well as representatives from Taman Safari Indonesia, presented the travel report;
- Biodiversity and Conservation of Endemic Primate Animals in the Mentawai Islands by Walberto Sinaga, MSi
- A trip to Japan for the retirement of Yoshi KAWAMOTO and Prof. Hirohisa HIRAI by Dr. Dyah Perwitasari
In the first presentation, brother Walberto recounted all the activities carried out with the team in Mentawai for one month (March 5 to April 5, 2018), identifying flora and fauna in the Bekemen Conservation Area, especially 4 species of Mentawai typical primates.
- Presbitys potenziani (Joja, Mentawai langur)
- Simias concolor (Simakobu / Pig tail monkey)
- Macaca pagensis (Bokkoi / Beruk Mentawai)
- Hylobates klossii (Bilou / Dwarf Siamang)
Besides identifying and recording the behavior of the Mentawai primates, the team also identified birds, butterflies, other mammals, fish, insects and plants.
In the second presentation, Dr. Dyah Perwitasari told a flashback of the collaboration between PSSP-IPB and Tokyo University, and expressed his appreciation for the good cooperation that has been done so far.
