Pre-release: Primate Animal Medical Training

Primate animals are animals that have high potential to be carriers of zoonotic diseases including hepatitis, tuberculosis, shigellosis, salmonellosis and Herpes B. Some species that are difficult to control sometimes have a tendency to bite and can transmit zoonotic diseases. Appropriate facilities and proper knowledge in the care of primate animals are important points in the care of these animals.

In the care of primates by nurses and veterinarians, several things need to be considered regarding the handling and facilities of these animals. In this training participants will get animal ethics and taxonomy as well as several handling techniques including breeding, quarantine, behavior, biology and physiology of primate animals. Primate health management is also an important point in this training including infectious and non-infectious diseases, colony management and surgery introduction.

The Primate Animal Study Center in collaboration with IICT held a “Primate Medicine for Veterinarians” training on September 28-30, 2015 at IPB Science Park Taman Kencana. The main objective of this training is to improve the ability of participants to implement good and appropriate health management for primate animals.

The training topics will be presented with the presentation method (45%) as well as practice and simulation (25%) and discussion (30%). The topics to be discussed in this training are:

Investment for this training is IDR 5,000,000.00 (without lodging) and IDR 6,500,000.00 (with lodging). Facilities obtained include: certificates, lunch, coffee breaks, training modules, training kits for packages without lodging. While participants with lodging packages will get the same facilities plus: lodging, transportation from the inn to the training location, breakfast and dinner
