International Seminar: Nonhuman Primates in Biology, Conservation, and Biomedical Research

Monday, 31 August 2015 – Located at the IPB International Convention Center, the Primate Animal Study Center (PSSP) of LPPM-IPB successfully held an event titled “International Seminar: Nonhuman Primates in Biology, Conservation, and Biomedical Research”. The event was held to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the PSSP of LPPM-IPB. A total of 166 participants from various groups attended to fill the room. The speakers present, both from inside and outside the country felt enthusiastic throughout the seminar. The presence of Prof. Dr. Ir. Herry Suhardiyanto, M.Sc (Chancellor of the Bogor Agricultural Institute) made the PSSP of LPPM-IPB feel complete.

The seminar begins with a plenary session with guest speaker Prof. Randall C. Kyes, Ph.D from the University of Washington. He gave seminar material with the topic “Field Training on Tinjil Island, Indonesia: A Model of International Collaboration For 25 Years”. Then the keynote speaker by the founder of the PSSP LPPM-IPB, Prof. drh. Dondin Sajuthi, MST, Ph.D. He gave seminar material on the topic “Overview of the Use of Indonesian Non-Human Primates for Biomedical Research in Indonesia”. This session was led by moderator Dr. drh. Joko Pamungkas, MSc, Head of PSB PSB.

The scientific session was continued in parallel into 2, namely Biology & Conservation Session and Biomedicine Session. Biology & Conservation Session, led by moderator Dr. Dyah Perwitasari and Dr. Entang Iskandar with the speaker Dr. Jatna Supriatna (University of Indonesia), Yoshi Kawamoto PhD (Kyoto University), Dr. Bambang Suryobroto (IPB), Michael Krutzen, PhD (University of Zurich), Dr. J. Sugardjito (National University), and Matthew F. S. X. Novak, PhD (Central Oregon Community College). The moderator at the Biomedicine Session, was Dr. Diah Iskandriati and Dr. Fitriya NA Dewi with speaker Shiu-Lok Hu, PhD (University of Washington), Dr. Neni Nurainy, Apt (Research and Development Division, PT. Biofarma (Persero)), Stephen J. Kent, MBBS (Hons), FRACP, MD (University of Melbourne), J. Mark Cline, DVM, PhD, DACVP (Wake Forest School of Medicine), Drh. Huda S. Darusman, MS, PhD (IPB), and Eric Hayes, MSc, PhD (Porsolt SAS).
