Indonesian Women Researchers Share the Problem of Successfully Getting Scholarships

Tabloidnova.com – A recent data revealed by education expert Prof. Dr. Arief Rahman Mpd, in the past 10 years in Indonesia there have only been 7 percent of female graduates of S1 who continue their education to S2 level and only 3 percent of female graduates have a doctoral program.

Meanwhile, data released by the 2013 Directorate General of Higher Education in the title “Student Women in Indonesia” stated, there were 239,339 female students who earned bachelor’s degrees and 18,560 female students who earned master’s degrees in 2014.

Furthermore, only 516 female students were moved to pursue a doctoral degree. That is, only 0.2 percent of female students earned a bachelor’s degree who went on to doctoral level.

Seeing this fact, PT L’Oreal Indonesia decided to run the L’Oreal-UNESCO For Women in Science (FWIS) and L’Oreal For Girls in Science (LGIS) programs, as well as the newly launched program L’Oreal Sorority in Science (LSIS) which aims to promote science to underprivileged students.

One of the recipients of the 2014 L’Oreal-UNESCO FWIS scholarship, Dr. Fitriya Nur Annisa Dewi, PhD, at the launch of the LSIS program, Wednesday (3/25) in the Director General of Higher Education, Jakarta, shared her valuable experience on how to successfully get a scholarship program L’Oreal’s science.

“L’Oreal-UNESCO FWIS Nasional is a prestigious fellowship program and I am very proud to be part of this community. For this reason, I want to help encourage young Indonesian researchers to participate in this program. Because through FWIS, I am not only able to develop further research, but also be able to share knowledge with scientists and students and other students, “said the woman who is often called Pipit.

Pipit is a veterinarian from the Primate Study Center – Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB) who examines the potential of katuk leaves which can inhibit the spread of cancer.
