Primate Door Animals for Biomedical Diverse Research
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BOGOR – Primate animals play an important role in human health and well-being. Through these animals, researchers can carry out a variety of biomedical research such as testing the use of drugs, chemicals, biological substances, and other materials, which will eventually be used for human medicine.
This was stated by Dr. Berry Juliandi, one of the speakers in the RRI, 93.75 FM RRI Bogor dialogue recently. Berry further explained, other biomedical research can also be done on matters relating to health and diseases caused by infection, degeneration, and accidents.
Researchers can conduct research on the transmission of bacteria and viruses to humans, stem cell transplant therapy to various organs, the influence of certain diets on human health, and so forth.
When one of the listeners asks, what are the primates? Berry explained, which included primates were animals such as monkeys, orangutans, chimpanzees, gorillas, gibbons, lorises, slow lorises. These animals have genetic similarities, physiology, morphology, and many other things with humans. Therefore, this group of animals is right if it is used as a research model compared to other animals.
This dialogue guided by Marissa looks different from the previous dialogue because it presents two other speakers, senior primate researcher Dr. Bambang Suryobroto from the Department of Biology, FMIPA and Dr. Luca Morino from Kyoto University Japan, who came to Bogor to be one of the speakers from hundreds of participants who attended the Asian Primate International Symposium as a result of cooperation between IPB and Kyoto University on August 18-21 2014 at IPB International Convention Center (http: // www .sea-primate.org).
