Use of Laboratory Animals in Biomedical Research

Center for Primate Animal Studies (PSSP) LPPM – IPB in collaboration with IPB International Certified Training (IICT), PT Bogor Life Science and Technology conducted training on March 28-29, 2016 at IPB Science Park, Taman Kencana 3, Bogor. The training was held entitled “Use of Laboratory Animals in Biomedical Research”. The topics presented include:

  • Ethics, Legislation & IACUC overview
  • Biosafety and Occupational Health and Safety
  • 3R principle
  • Facility management (husbandry, EE, data recording)
  • Behavior, biology and physiology: mice, mice and rabbits
  • Introduction to animal models
  • Management of laboratory animal diseases: mice, mice and rabbits
  • Handling and restraint
  • Anesthesics, analgesics, euthanasia, surgery
  • Hands-on Practice: Handling and Restraint, Sample Collection, Drug administration

This training activity for paramedics uses presentation and discussion methods in the classroom. But there are also practice and simulation sessions with a proportion of 25% of the training time held on the second day. Accompanied by trainers from the PSSP LPPM-IPB, namely Dr. Drh. Diah Iskandriati, Drh. Permanawati, Drh. Fitriya Nur Annisa Dewi, Ph.D and Dr. Uus Saepuloh, Ssi, MBiomed the training participants are expected to be able to understand the concepts of research with animals properly and ethically to obtain quality research results.
