These Orangutans are Chained and Placed Sober

PONTIANAK, KOMPAS.com – The effort of the West Kalimantan Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) to evacuate an individual orangutan who was kept by a resident of Korek Village, Ambawang District, Kubu Raya Regency, had to be constrained because the owner was not at home on Tuesday (6/10 / 2015).

The atmosphere of the house seemed deserted when two BKSDA officers came to the house. Only a teenage child appears in and out of the house. However, the child was indifferent when he saw the officer coming.

Orangutans are right next to the house, in a place that looks like a garage. An iron chain coiled around his neck. The chain is tied to one wooden pole.

That’s where the orangutan is seen playing. A piece of garbage accompanied him. Several wooden blocks and boards with nails rusting not far from the orangutan were chained.

The orangutan looks thin. Its reddish fur looks tangled. While around it looks food marks like rice that starts to flare up with flies. A place that is far different from its natural habitat.

For almost three hours, BKSDA officers tried to communicate with orangutan owners. From the officers’ conversation via telephone connection, it seemed that the orangutan could not be evacuated that day.

The two officers then went to the village head and coordinated, regarding the evacuation process of the orangutan. Although he had met with the village head, the orangutans still could not be taken.
