International Seminar: Integrating Biological Studies to Promote Primate Conservation Efforts
Introduction
Asia is home to a wide range of primates from the tiny slender lorises from India and Sri Lanka or the slightly bigger pygmy slow loris from Indochina to the large orangutans from Borneo and Sumatra, and everything in between. The five families of primates that are found in Asia are Lorisidae, Tarsiidae, Cercopithecoidae, Hylobatidae and Hominidae represent a bewildering array of variations. This diversity is mirrored by the variation of habitats in which Asian primates can be found, from wet mangrove forests on the coast through lowland temperate and tropical forests, to high mountain regions, and increasingly, human-modified or created habitats.
Indonesia with more than 50 primate species is one of ‘megadiverse’ country facing serious threat due to ecological changes such as deforestation. This condition driven by the increase of human population, resulting in high demands for food, forest products, and energy. These changes are decreasing non-human primate population in the wild that influence the conservation status of the Indonesian primates. Studies on Conservation and Ecology, Genetics and Reproductive Biology, Taxonomy and Behavior, also Rehabilitation and Climate Change need to be explored by the primatology society. To promote conservation efforts, we invite primatology scientist at national and international level to share their work and expertise as contribution to the above mentioned concerns.

The one day seminar will be conducted at IPB International Convention Center, Jalan Raya Pajajaran, Bogor, Indonesia on August 29, 2016.
